Meet ResultsSCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team finished first out of five teams with 118 points at the Union Relays hosted by Union (N.Y.) College on Saturday during its 2015-16 season debut, winning seven of the nine events contested.
Host Union finished second in the team standings (114), while Vassar College (100), Montclair State University (50) and Mount Saint Mary College (44) rounded out the remainder of the field.
New Paltz next visits Vassar for a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m.
The Hawks kicked off the meet with a win the 400 medley relay, as the foursome of freshman
Kaleigh O'Halloran (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), sophomores
Megan Joseph (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) and
Molly McCulloch (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent) and senior
Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) clocked a time of 4:09.68. After placing second in the 200 backstroke relay, the quartet of seniors
Casey O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and
Krista VerMeersch (Newark, N.Y./Newark), freshman
Katie Donlevy (Bayside, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) and Joseph won the 200 breaststroke relay in 2:12.93. Right after that event, the contingent of seniors
Maggie Heaton (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) and
Ella Graffin (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), freshman
Jaimie Kaefer (North Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) and McCulloch finished first in the 200 butterfly relay (1:49.49) before the quartet of junior
Aimee Del Favero (Auburn, N.Y./Home School), O'Connor, Graffin and Griger won the 500 freestyle crescendo relay (4:54.02).
After a second-place result in the 200 freestyle relay, the Hawks finished the meet with three straight wins. The foursome of Joseph, Donlevy, Kaefer and Heaton combined for a 4:16.71 in the 4x100 individual medley relay, the quartet of O'Halloran, O'Connor, McCulloch and Griger clocked a 1:54.89 in the 200 medley relay and the contingent of Donlevy, Joseph, Graffin and Griger charted a 3:44.47 in the 400 freestyle relay.
