Meet ResultsNEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team won 11 of the 14 events contested, cruising to a 150-107 victory over Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon in its 2015-16 home opener at Elting Pool.
Eight different New Paltz swimmers won an individual event, led by freshman
Jaimie Kaefer (North Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham), who touched first in the 500 freestyle (5:28.27) and the 200 individual medley (2:15.95). Kaefer's 200 individual medley was marked as exhibition.
New Paltz rises to 1-1 on the season with the win and next competes at the NYU Invitational from Friday-Saturday, Nov. 6-7, at New York University. Ramapo drops to to 2-1 with the loss and visits The College of New Jersey next on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m.
The 400 medley relay team of freshman
Nicole Lee (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale), sophomore
Megan Joseph (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) and seniors
Maggie Heaton (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) and
Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) kicked off the meet with a winning time of 4:10.02 in the first event of the afternoon. Junior
Ann Fici (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) nabbed a victory in the 1,000 freestyle (11:28.20) before Griger posted a winning time of 2:01.26 in the 200 freestyle. Freshman
Kaleigh O'Halloran (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:03.57) before Joseph and Heaton won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.51) and the 200 butterfly (2:18.64), respectively, prior to the first break.
Senior
Casey O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) topped the field in the 200 backstroke (2:17.91), while freshman
Katie Donlevy (Bayside, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) followed suit with a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.59). Kaefer then won the 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley before the 200 freestyle relay squad of sophomore
Molly McCulloch (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent), Lee, O'Halloran and Griger posted an event-best 1:41.36 to close the meet. That last relay was marked as exhibition for the Hawks.
Second-place finishes came from Donlevy in the 200 freestyle (2:01.58) and the 200 individual medley (2:18.27), O'Connor in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.91), Kaefer in the 200 butterfly (2:21.24), McCulloch in the 50 freestyle (25.87), Griger in the 100 freestyle (55.16), Fici in the 500 freestyle (5:35.77) and Heaton in the 100 butterfly (1:01.24).
