2015 AVCA NCAA Division III All-America TeamsLEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior outside hitter
Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) and junior middle hitter
Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) from the State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team have been named as 2015 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division III Honorable Mention All-Americans, as announced by the AVCA.
Both Borquist and Roessler also were tabbed as AVCA All-Northeast Region selections for the 2015 season.
This marks Borquist's third AVCA All-America nod of her career, as she has been an Honorable Mention All-American in 2013 and 2015 and a Third-Team All-American in 2014. In addition, she earned AVCA All-Region selection in each of the past three seasons. Borquist earned at least a share of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season in 2015 and has proven herself as one of the most decorated student-athletes in the history of the New Paltz women's volleyball program, as she earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors in each of the past three seasons, including 2015. She has earned All-SUNYAC honors during all four years of her career at New Paltz, and during her freshman season in 2012, she was named the SUNYAC East Division Rookie of the Year. Borquist was a key member of the Hawks' 2014 SUNYAC championship team, as she was named the SUNYAC Tournament MVP for her efforts throughout the tournament.
Borquist ranked second in the SUNYAC in kills per set (3.62) and eighth in the conference in service aces per set (0.44) in 2015 while also averaging 2.91 digs per set. She etched her name in numerous places in the program's career record book, ranking second all-time in kills (1,744), fourth all-time in digs (1,647) and fifth all-time in service aces (200). Borquist is one of just two student-athletes in program history to register at least 1,500 kills and 1,500 digs, with Belgica Santana also achieving the feat from 1997-99. A 2012 graduate of Rhinebeck High School, she is the daughter of Dana and Donna Borquist.
This marks Roessler's first-ever AVCA Honorable Mention All-America nod after picking up her first-ever AVCA All-Region honor this season. Roessler earned the third All-SUNYAC recognition of her career this year as well, as she was named to the All-SUNYAC First Team in 2015 and was a Second-Team All-SUNYAC choice in 2013 and 2014. This season, Roessler ranked fifth in the SUNYAC in blocks per set (0.89) and fifth in the conference in hitting percentage (.296 – 306-105-679). Her best match of the year came against one of the top teams in the region, as she floored a season-high 21 kills and hit .553 (21-0-38) in a five-set loss to The College at Brockport that ultimately locked the Hawks into the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. In the program's record books, Roessler ranks sixth all-time in total blocks (313) and is tied for eighth all-time in hitting percentage (.304 – 857-274-1,915). A 2013 graduate of Massapequa High School, she is the daughter of Rich and Shari Roessler.
New Paltz finished its season at 22-11 overall and 8-1 in SUNYAC play, making the SUNYAC Tournament final for the third consecutive season and qualifying for the SUNYAC Tournament for the 12th straight year, all of which have come under the guidance of 14th-year head coach
Matt Giufre.
