NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team will travel across the country to California this Saturday March 14 to take on four teams throughout the week.
 
SCHEDULE: The Hawks will play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday, March 15 at 11 a.m. (PDT), Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday, March 17 at 11 a.m. (PDT), Redlands on March 18 at 7 p.m. (PDT) and Whittier on Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. (PDT).
 
RECORDS: This will be the first game of the season for the Hawks...The Athenas are 5-0, 4-0 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)…The Sagehens are 4-1, 4-1 SCIAC, and have a 1-1 home record…The Bulldogs are 2-3, 2-2 SCIAC, and 1-3 at home…The Poets are 0-6, 0-5 SCIAC, and 0-4 at home.
 

21137SCOUTING THE HAWKS (0-0): The Hawks have faced inclement weather conditions causing their first two games of the 2015 season against Hartwick College and Farmingdale State College to be postponed… New Paltz will play their first games of the season in California this upcoming week.
 
RETURNING STATISTICAL LEADERS: Then-junior attack Kelsey Healy ended with 31 goals, 35 points, a .544 shooting percentage, a .842 shots-on-goal percentage, 23 groundballs, and 25 draw controls… Then-junior midfielders Carissa Citro and Lianne Valdivia were tied with 29 goals… Citro recorded 23 assists, 52 points, a .746 shots on goal percentage, 39 groundballs, and 48 draw controls…Valdivia resulted with a .808 shots on goal percentage, 33 groundballs, and 26 draw controls... Then-junior defender Julia Johnson led the team in caused turnovers with 24 and recorded 33 groundballs… Then-junior goalkeeper Jackie Ulanoff started and finished every game of the 2014 season… Ulanoff finished with a 16.79 goals against average, 137 saves, a .384 save percentage, and 463 shots faced.
 
2014 TEAM STATISTICS: The Hawks finished the 2014 season with 11.54 goals per game and topped their opponents in shots on goal percentage of .811 to .771… New Paltz had 63 assists and 87 unassisted goals… The Hawks ended with 287 groundballs, 145 draw controls, and a clear percentage of .691 (177-256).
 

19808SCOUTING THE ATHENAS (5-0): The Athenas defeated Chapman 13-9 in SCIAC play on March 4… Sophomore midfielder Cara Cancelmo led the team to victory with her six draw controls and three assists… Sophomore midfielder Joanna Heywood scored three goals… Junior midfielder Molly O'Donnell was two-for-two on her shots, tallied two assists, one groundball, and three caused turnovers… Junior attack/defense Christina Coffin added two goals and one caused turnover…The Athenas tallied 31 shot attempts and completed all three clears.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: O'Donnell leads the Athenas with nine goals… Following her is Ellen Berkley, Heywood, and Katie Hill with eight goals respectively… Lauren Clubb leads with nine assists and 16 points on the season so far… Hill has recorded nine ground balls followed by six other players all tied with six… Berkley and Cancelo lead draw controls with 15 and 13, respectively…Berkley and O'Donnell are tied with seven caused turnovers.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: In the SCIAC the Athenas rank first in shots on goal percentage (83.5 percent) and third in shots on goal (359)… CMS ranks second in ground balls (345) and third in goals against average (9.15)…The Athenas rank third in both saves (134) and save percentage (44.4 percent)… CMS ranks third in clears (200-of-235).
 

10907SCOUTING THE SAGEHENS (4-1): The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens battled Redlands on March 4 in a close SCIAC match, winning 10-9… The Sagehens scored the first four goals of the second half to take a 10-6 and held on to the lead to win on the road at Redlands… Sophomore attack Rebecca Long had a career-high five goals… Junior attack Sarah Markowitz and freshman midfielder Sallie Marx added three and two goals, respectively.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Long leads the team with 14 goals and 21 shots on goal… Markowitz follows with 10 goals and 20 shots on goal for a 95.2 shots-on- goal percentage…Junior attack Aubrey Douglass has nine goals and leads the team with eight assists and 17 points… Marx has recorded nine goals and 10 points… Junior midfielder Ally McLaughlin has caused 16 turnovers.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: In the SCIAC, Pomona-Pitzer ranks second in goals (262), goals per game (12.48), and second in assists (86)… The Sagehens rank first in shots on goal (465), but third in shots on goal percentage (82.6 percent)… Pomona-Pitzer leads the league in groundballs (422) and stands second in draw controls (257)…The Sagehens rank first in caused turnovers (186) and save percentage (48.0 percent).
 

15924SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS (2-3): Redlands fell short to Pomona-Pitzer 10-9 on March 4 and to Chapman 9-5 on March 7 in SCIAC play… Against the Sagehens, the Bulldogs won draw controls (11-10), groundballs (13-12) and completed eight of ten clears…Against the Panthers, struggled defensively and trailed early 4-0 through the first half…Junior midfielder Stephanie Garrett had three goals, eight shots, five shots on goal, two groundballs, and two caused turnovers… Freshman attack McKenna Tychsen tallied one goal, one assist, three shots, two shots on goal, and three groundballs… Freshman attack Katy Miele had one goal, three shots, three shots on goal, and two groundballs…The starting freshman goalie Quinn Egan faced seven shots and made three saves… Sophomore goalie Gigja Hollyday faced nine shots and made four saves… Redlands went 13-for-13 in clears and outgained Chapman in groundballs 25-19.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Garrett leads the team in most categories with 18 goals, 18 points, 21 draw controls, 28 shots on goal, eight caused turnovers, and 13 groundballs… Junior Sam Keary follows Garrett with 10 groundballs and freshman Lacey Bjorndal follows Garrett as well with 14 draw controls… Sophomore Dulce Moll has 11 goals, three assists, and 14 points… Tychsen leads the assists category with seven.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: Redlands leads the SCIAC in goals (270), assists (130), goals per game (14.21), and shooting percentage (56.4 percent)…The Bulldogs stand second in shots-on goal-percentage (83.3 percent)… The Bulldogs are ranked first in draw controls (265), second in caused turnovers (164) and third in groundballs (337).
 

15940SCOUTING THE POETS (0-5): Whittier has struggled in their first several games including a recent loss to Marymount (Va.)… The Poets were only down 5-2 at halftime… Junior midfielder Rebecca Delledera had one goal, one assist, and two groundballs… Freshman midfielder Angelina Cuevas tallied two goals, one assist, six draw controls, and four caused turnovers… Junior attack Rachel Lansner added two goals… Senior goalkeeper Nicole Yorba ended with 10 saves… Whittier outgained Marymount on groundballs 10-8.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Cuevas has recorded nine goals and one assist for 10 points, 13 groundballs, 12 draw controls, and nine caused turnovers… Freshman midfielder Melanie Rizzotti and senior defender Meesha Robinson have five goals respectively… Delledera leads the groundball and draw control categories with 17 and 16 each…Yorba has a 51.2 save percentage.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: Whittier is ranked second in the SCIAC in clears (185-of-264)… The Poets are fourth in total goals against (188)…The Poets are ranked first in saves (165) and second in save percentage (46.7 percent).
 

WHAT'S NEXT: New Paltz hosts the University of Scranton on March 25 at 4 p.m.… Claremont-Mudd-Scripps hosts Kean University on March 16 at 7 p.m. (PDT)… Pomona-Pitzer plays Wesleyan (Conn.) at Colorado College on Thursday March 19 at 10 a.m. (PDT)… Redlands travels to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday March 21 at 1 p.m. (PDT)… Whittier hosts Pomona-Pitzer for Senior Day on April 4 at 11 a.m. (PDT).
