NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team will travel to Chester, N.Y. to take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 25 starting at 3 p.m. at The Rock Sports Park.
RECORDS: New Paltz enters Wednesday's doubleheader with a 7-3 overall record... RPI is 4-2 overall.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (7-3): New Paltz moves into Wednesday's game after competing in nine games over spring break at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C… The Hawks came out of the tournament 7-3… The Hawks hit the season off defeating Eureka 9-3 and Keystone 12-3… Senior third baseman
Meg Brewer was named SUNYAC Player of the Week for the period ending March 15… Brewer hit .667 (6-for-9) and fashioned a 1.000 slugging percentage with six RBI, three doubles and two runs scored in a 2-0 opening week for the Hawks… The team furthered the winning streak to 5-0 after sweeping a tripleheader, beating Spalding 6-3 and 6-2 and Mount Saint Vincent 3-2… The Hawks encountered three losses, one against Salem and two to Frostburg State… The Hawks earned two no-hitter victories against York College, winning 24-0 and 11-0 in five innings… New Paltz is led by head coach

TEAM STATISTICS: New Paltz ranks first in the SUNYAC in several categories including batting average (.332), slugging percentage (.468), runs (77), and hits (93)… New Paltz is second in the conference in ERA (2.41) and fourth defensively with a .934 fielding percentage.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS (4-2): The Engineers are also returning from Myrtle Beach after competing in six games… RPI came home with a 4-2 mark…While down South, the Engineers defeated Alderson Broaddus 7-6, Keystone 1-0, Mount Saint Vincent 6-2 and Eureka 5-0… The team fell to Kentucky Christian 5-1 and Ursuline 4-3… Senior pitcher Kristina Weltzin was named the Liberty League Pitcher of the Week and junior outfielder Morgan Ten Eyck was selected to the Honor Roll… Weltzin is 2-1 on the season with a 3.82 ERA, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 15 hits, in 18.1 innings… Ten Eyck led the Engineers this past week batting .471 (8-for-17), with four doubles, a home run, three runs scored and six runs batted in, earning a .882 slugging percentage and .444 on-base percentage… Four-year coach Amber Maisonet heads RPI.
INDIVIDUAL STATISTICAL LEADERS: Junior catcher Taylor Ten Eyck leads the team and ranks sixth in the Liberty League with a .421 batting average, while also earning a .750 slugging percentage, which ranks fourth in the conference... Sophomore infielder Courtney McArthur ranks fourth in the league with a .500 on-base percentage… Weltzin ranks fifth in the league with a 3.82 ERA.
TEAM STATISTICS: The Engineers are ranked second in the Liberty League in fielding percentage (.966), fourth in batting average (.265) and slugging percentage (.329), fifth with 21 RBIs…The pitching staff had combined for a 2.30 ERA.
LAST MEETING: The Hawks fell at RPI twice when these two teams last met on April 6, 2004.
WHAT'S NEXT: New Paltz will travel to The Sage Colleges at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1… RPI will host The Sage Colleges on Thursday, March 26 starting at 3:30 p.m.
