Softball Travels to Sage on Wednesday

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team will travel to Troy, N.Y. to take on The Sage Colleges Gators on Wednesday, April 1 starting at 3 p.m.
 
RECORDS: New Paltz enters Wednesday's doubleheader with a 7-5 overall record... Sage is 4-8 overall.
 

21137SCOUTING THE HAWKS (7-5): After a series of recent weather cancelations last week, the Hawks will get back into action Wednesday… Last Wednesday,  New Paltz fell twice to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers 13-5 and 5-1… In the first game, Senior catcher Shayna Burgess went 1-for-2 that included two runs scored, one double, and one RBI… In the second game, junior left fielder Fallon Spriggs and senior third baseman Meg Brewer each had one hit… Senior pitcher Erika Traina shouldered the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) off seven hits and a walk while striking out four in 3 2/3 innings of work… Junior pitcher Katie Rutcofsky threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief and was awarded by being named the State Unviersity of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pitcher of the Week.
 
INDIVIDUAL STATISTICAL LEADERS: Freshman outfielder Julia Perhacs ranks second in the conference in batting average (.593) and fourth in slugging percentage (.688)… Perhacs is also tied for first in hits (17), ranks third in runs scored (12), RBI (9), and doubles (5)… Freshman first baseman Lauren Cappello ranks fifth in slugging percentage (.667)… Rutcofsky leads the team in innings (18 1/3), wins (3), strikeouts (14) and ERA (0.76).
 
TEAM STATISTICS: New Paltz ranks first in the SUNYAC in several categories including batting average (.303), slugging percentage (.433), runs (83), and hits (98)… New Paltz is fifth in the conference defensively with a .925 fielding percentage, just .001 behind Geneseo in fourth.
 

2936SCOUTING THE GATORS (4-8): The Gators dropped two games to Farmingdale State College in the first Skyline Conference match-up yesterday, falling 4-3 and 6-4… In game one, sophomore Jess Adams singled up the middle, followed by a single by sophomore Katy Rimawi… Freshman Alana Vanderburg then had a two-run double to bring in Adams and Rimawi to give the Gators an early 2-0 lead… Freshman Alexa Silk connected on her second home run of the season… Sophomore Lindsay Brace took the loss with one earned run off three hits… Junior Katie Kovage started the game and pitched six innings with two earned runs off seven hits, two walks, and one strikeout… In game two, junior Morgan Dunn had a two RBI… Silk connected once again resulting in a two-run home run… Senior Kristin Beikirch and Kovage each added doubles… Brace unfortunately recorded another loss with 5 1/3 innings and four earned runs off nine hits.
 
INDIVIDUAL STATISTICAL LEADERS: In the Skyline Conference, Dunn ranks seventh (.379) in batting average and Beikirch ranks eighth (.364)… Dunn ranks first in on-base percentage (.514), first in walks (8), second in slugging percentage (.724), tied for second in total bases (21), and tied for fourth in runs batted in (8)… Beikirch is tied for second in stolen bases (4-of-4)… Silk leads the team in home runs with three.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: In the Skyline, Sage ranks first in home runs (6)…Sage is second in slugging percentage (.380) and hits (72)…The Gators are third in batting average (.263), runs scored (43), runs batted in (40), walks (24), stolen bases (12)… In the field, Sage ranks second in assists (89) and third in stolen bases against (15) and passed balls (6).
 
LAST MEETING: The Hawks and the Gators split the doubleheader when these two programs last met on April 18, 2012.
 

WHAT'S NEXT: New Paltz will travel to Oneonta, N.Y. on Friday, April 3 to take on SUNY Oneonta in a doubleheader for their first SUNYAC match-up starting at 3 p.m.…The Sage Colleges will host a doubleheader against Skidmore College on Thursday, April 2 starting at 3:30 p.m.
