With the bases loaded with one out in the top of the seventh, Mount Saint Mary appeared poised for a big offensive inning, but Burgess ended the frame by doubling up the Knights, catching a routine fly ball before throwing out a runner headed for home. New Paltz ended up getting runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom half of the seventh, but the Knights induced a ground out to end the game.
Freshman left fielder
Julia Perhacs (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) keyed the Hawk attack by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Burgess and sophomore shortstop
Kiersten Carlomagno (Commack, N.Y./Commack) each batted 2-for-3. Surdan led Mount Saint Mary with a 3-for-3 performance that included three runs scored, one RBI and a double.

Tierney Hornbeck (Albany, N.Y./Albany) came up big as pinch hitters, scattering back-to-back base hits. Senior center fielder

The middle innings featured strong pitching and defense from both teams, with the side being retired in as few as four pitches on some occasions. Surdan finally added some offensive clout to the game for the Knights in the top of the sixth, which set the stage for the Hawks' five-run surge in the bottom of the inning.
Eight different Hawks had a hit in the contest, with Verso's 2-for-3 performance being New Paltz's lone multi-hit outing. Freshman pitcher Courtney Barbara (2-for-4, one double) and Surdan (2-for-4, two runs scored, one RBI, one home run) keyed the Knight attack.
