NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team will compete in two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contests this weekend against Buffalo State and SUNY Fredonia from April 17-18.
 
RECORDS: New Paltz enters the weekend with a 13-8 overall record and a 5-1 SUNYAC record... Buffalo State is 12-11 overall, 6-4 in SUNYAC… Fredonia is 11-10 overall and 8-2 in conference. 
 

SCOUTING THE HAWKS (13-8, 5-1):  The Hawks enter the weekend after a split against Mount Saint Mary this past Wednesday… In game one, the Hawks fell short of the win, falling to the Knights 6-5… Freshman Julia Perhacs lead the offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored… Senior catcher Shayna Burgess and sophomore shortstop Kiersten Carlomagno each batted 2-for-3… In game two, New Paltz topped the Knights 6-3 after scoring five runs in the sixth inning to come from behind… The win was a well-rounded combined effort from the Hawks with eight different players recording hits… Alex Verso went 2-for-3…  Senior pitcher Erika Traina earned the win… Senior Meg Brewer was credited with the save. 
 
INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS: Perhacs is ranked second in the SUNYAC with a .448 batting average and sixth in slugging percentage (.638) and fifth in on-base percentage (.500)… Fallon Spriggs leads the conference in home runs (6) and slugging percentage (.719)... Burgess is ranked fifth in stolen bases (8).
 
TEAM STATISTICS:  New Paltz sits at the top of the conference in batting average (.318), home runs (20), RBI (140), runs (147), slugging percentage (.500) and on-base percentage (.400). 
 

SCOUTING THE BENGALS (12-11, 6-4): Buffalo State split their previous non-conference doubleheader with Penn Sate Behrend this past Wednesday… The Bengals fell 5-3 in game one but clinched a 5-2 victory in game two after earning a 5-0 lead… Freshman Melissa Magiera led the Bengals in game one, finishing 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI… Joanna Bardak and Taylor Swiatek each went 2-for-4… In game two, Bardak finished 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI… Jordan Sarat went 2-for-3 with two RBI… Sarat earned her third win on the season in the circle.
 
INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS: Bardak is second in the SUNYAC for slugging percentage (.712), third for hits (32), home runs (32), and fourth in batting average (.438) … Stephanie Novo is second in the conference with 23 runs.
 
TEAM STATISTICS:  The Bengals are second in the SUNYAC for hits (207), RBI (126), runs (145), slugging percentage (.447), on-base percentage (.386)… Buffalo State is third in batting average (.315) and stolen bases (31).
 
LAST MEETING: The Hawks fell to the Bengals 6-3 in the SUNYAC Tournament on May 1, 2014.
 

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS (9-7): Fredonia is coming off a doubleheader loss against SUNY Cortland on Sunday afternoon, dropping game one 6-4 and game two, 9-1… In game one, junior first baseman Madeline Medina had a two-run double… Junior infielder Lindsay Forness had a double and a single… Junior infielder Alyssa Morgan had an RBI single and senior pitcher Kelsey Gannett had 14 strikeouts… In the second contest, Forness led the attack with a double and two singles and two RBI… Freshman third baseman Katelyn Dennis, senior catcher Jess Lauck and freshman outfielder Maggie Paras each had two hits, Paras also had two RBI… Morgan scored three runs.
 
INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS: Lauck leads the team with a .440 batting average and a .540 slugging percentage… Gunnell has scored a team-high 16 runs… Morgan has a team-high of 29 hits, 32 total bases and 75 at bats… In the circle, Garnett is 4-3 with a 1.08 ERA in 13 game appearances… Connoly has registered 76 strikeouts, holding opponents to a .250 batting average.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: The Blue Devils are batting .302 and have a team ERA of 4.39… Fredonia has a .930 fielding percentage.
 
LAST MEETING: The Hawks and Blue Devils split when these teams last met on April 25, 2014.
 

WHAT'S NEXT: The Hawks are scheduled to play at SUNY Oswego and SUNY Cortland from April 21-22… The Bengals will host SUNY Oneonta Saturday, April 18… The Blue Devils will host The College at Brockport on Wednesday, April 22.
