Box Score 2 BUFFALO – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team dropped a pair of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) games to Buffalo State on Friday at the Buffalo State Softball Field, falling, 8-0, in five innings in game one before dropping a 4-3 decision in game two.
New Paltz drops to 13-10 overall (5-3 SUNYAC) with the losses and visits SUNY Fredonia for a conference twinbill tomorrow at 12 p.m. Buffalo State rises to 14-11 overall (8-4 SUNYAC) with the wins and entertains SUNY Oneonta tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. in a doubleheader.
Buffalo State 8, New Paltz 0 (5 inn.)Buffalo State's senior pitcher Maddie Coneys threw a complete-game one-hitter in game one, and the Bengals were also aided by five Hawk errors in the win.
The Bengals mounted a 6-0 lead after scoring two runs in the first and four runs in the third, and in the bottom of the fifth with two outs, junior second baseman Stephanie Novo hit a walk-off two-run homer to enact the eight-run rule and end the game.
Freshman right fielder
Danielle Bruno (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) was the lone Hawk to record a hit in game one, while senior third baseman Taylor Swiatek (3-for-3, two RBI, one run scored) and Novo (3-for-4, two RBI, two runs scored, one home run) paced the Bengal offense.

Meg Brewer (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) combined to yield eight runs (four earned) off 11 hits and a walk while striking out four, while Coneys struck out three and walked one.
Buffalo State 4, New Paltz 3Buffalo State overcame a 3-1 deficit in the nightcap and seized the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, giving up just one hit the rest of the game to pull out the game-two victory.

Lauren Cappello (New City, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) with an RBI single to center field. Swiatek countered for the Bengals in the home half of the inning, as she singled in a run.
Sophomore shortstop
Kiersten Carlomagno (Commack, N.Y./Commack) drove in a run in the top of the third to give New Paltz a 3-1 lead, but Novo got one back for Buffalo State in the bottom of the inning with her second home run of the day. Junior designated player/pitcher Alexis Haley tied the score at 3-all with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth before coming around to score during the next at-bat on a throwing error.
Senior left fielder
Juliette Verso (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and Carlomagno each went 2-for-3 to lead the New Paltz attack, while three Bengals registered multiple hits.

Erika Traina (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) was saddled with the loss in 3 1/3 innings of work before sophomore pitcher
Taylor Corwin (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) came in and struck out two in 2 2/3 scoreless frames of relief.
Haley earned the win for Buffalo State, yielding just two hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings of relief.
