Box Score 2 BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Playing in its final State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) series of the season, the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team fell twice at The College at Brockport on Saturday, falling in game one 2-1 in 10 innings before dropping game two, 9-0.
With the losses, the Hawks fall to 7-21, 4-13 SUNYAC and the Golden Eagles improve to 17-14, 9-8 SUNYAC. Both teams will conclude the weekend series tomorrow at 12 p.m.
Game One: Brockport 2, New Paltz 1 (10 innings)Despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead after one inning of play, the Hawks gave up a run in the fourth and 10th inning to fall in the opener, 2-1.
Senior third baseman
Mike Sparacino (Commack, N.Y./Commack) cracked an RBI single up the middle in the top of the first to score freshman
Jake Williams (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford), giving New Paltz a 1-0 edge. But the Golden Eagles came through with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth and the ultimate game-winning hit in the bottom of the tenth.
Senior
Shaun Hansen (Southold, N.Y./Greenport) earned the starting nod and pitched a solid game, going six innings while scattering four hits and allowing one run. Senior
Tyler Mitts (Nanuet, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) threw 3 1/3 frames, allowing just one run. Mitts was able to get out of a bases-loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the seventh to keep the game tied at 1-1.
New Paltz had five hits in the opener, as Sparacino led the attack with a 2-for-4 performance.
Game Two: Brockport 9, New Paltz 0The Hawks managed just two hits in game two against the Golden Eagles as Mitts and freshman
Chris Moran (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) collected base knocks. For Mitts, this was his first career hit.
Brockport used a nine-hit attack, including a pair of home runs to hand New Paltz the shutout loss. For the Hawks, senior
Jesse Vahamonde (Huntington, N.Y./Harborfields), sophomore
Luke Schuessler (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), freshman Jordan Dietch (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and senior
Roy Missall (Hemlock, N.Y./Honeoye Central) all appeared on the hill.
New Paltz broke up the no-hit bid in the top of the seventh when Mitts pinch hit and reached on an infield single to third base. Moran later followed with a single through the left side.
