NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team will play at SUNY Oswego in a three-game State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) series from April 4-5 at Cantine Park in Saugerties, N.Y.
RECORDS: New Paltz is 3-10, 0-3 SUNYAC... The Lakers are 13-6, 6-0 SUNYAC.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (3-10): New Paltz has not played since returning from Port Charlotte, Fla. on March 21… This season, the Hawks have picked up two wins against Lancaster Bible College and one against Salem State… Senior third baseman Mike Sparacino is hitting .410 this year, with five doubles and one homer… Junior catcher Tyler Bell is hitting .379… Freshman second baseman Chris Amato leads the team in batting average (.462) and on-base percentage (.533)… Senior first baseman Shaun Hansen leads the team with 11 RBI… Freshman outfielder Jake Williams has ripped two triples… Hansen, sophomore Spencer Ballot and junior Jamie Fox have earned victories this season… Junior right-hander Christian Huertas leads the team with 12 1/3 innings pitched... Last season against Oswego, Bell finished the series 5-for-10 with four RBI.
TEAM STATISTICS: The Hawks have cracked 26 doubles, three triples and three homers this season… The New Paltz pitching staff has struck out 81 batters.
SCOUTING THE LAKERS (13-4, 6-0): Oswego recently swept a three-game series against Plattsburgh (5-2, 4-0, and 8-4)… Junior right-handed pitcher Miles Kelly threw a complete game in the 4-0 win and recorded his third win on the year… Kelly only gave up eight hits and had six strikeouts… Senior righty Mikey Putillo recorded his third save of the season in the 8-4 victory… Sophomore outfielder Myles Kutscher and junior first baseman Jordan Giller both went 2-for-4 with a run scored… Giller also had two RBI and two doubles… In the 8-4 win, Kutscher continued his hot streak, racking up six RBI and a 2-for-3 performance.
TEAM STATISTICS: The Lakers are currently in first place in the SUNYAC... Oswego is ranked first in the conference pitching for batting average against (.271) and fielding percentage (.973)... The Lakers are second in the conference for slugging percentage (.432).
LAST MEETING: New Paltz fell to Oswego 7-6 when these two programs last met on April 6, 2014.
