Baseball Falls to Oswego, 10-0, in Series Finale

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. – Playing on Easter Sunday at Cantine Field, the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team could not find any offense against visiting SUNY Oswego and fell 10-0 to the Lakers in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.
 
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 3-13 overall and 0-6 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz will host SUNY Oneonta (3-11, 0-4 SUNYAC) on Wednesday, April 8 at 3 p.m. The Lakers, meanwhile, improve to 16-4, 9-0 SUNYAC and travel to SUNY Cortland on Tuesday, April 7 at 3 p.m.
 
Senior third baseman Mike Sparacino (Commack, N.Y./Commack) notched the Hawks' lone hit of the afternoon, an infield single to second base in the seventh inning, to break up the no-hit bid by Oswego's starter, sophomore right-hander Tim Cronin. Cronin finished the day throwing 7 1/3 innings, allowing that one hit and striking out four.
 
For New Paltz, eight pitchers took the mound as junior lefty Jamie Fox (Calverton, N.Y./Riverhead) was tagged with the loss. Senior southpaw Jesse Vahamonde (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) threw 2 2/3 innings in relief, giving up one earned run and submarine sophomore pitcher Kevin Frank (Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) threw 2/3 innings of scoreless ball.
 
Also appearing out of the bullpen was sophomore Brett Wisner (Forest Hills, N.Y./Forest Hills), senior Roy Missall (Hemlock, N.Y./Honeoye Central), freshman Conor Donachie (Garden City, N.Y./Chaminade), senior Matt Lawson (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and freshman Jordan Deitch (Commack, N.Y./Commack).
 
New Paltz managed just four base runners all day as freshman Jake Williams (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) drew a walk and stole second in the fourth, Sparacino reached on the infield hit, sophomore outfielder Andrew Martini (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) reached on a fielding error by Oswego's third baseman and freshman Chris Amato (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) got on via a fielder's choice.
 
Oswego was led offensively by junior second baseman Matt Capobianco who went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Both sophomore third baseman Eric Hamilton and junior first baseman Jordan Giller finished with two hits and two RBI apiece.
