PURCHASE, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Skye Kaler (Charleton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) posted two goals to help project the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team in a comeback 4-1 win over Purchase College in its 2015 season opener.

New Paltz rises to a 1-0 overall record and will open its home slate with the Michelle Vargas-Robin Tournament Friday-Sunday, Sept. 4-6, competing against Medgar Evers University (Sept. 4 at 5 p.m.) and Stockton University (Sept. 6 at 12 p.m.). Purchase falls to 0-1 overall and competes against Lehman College on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.

The game remained scoreless until the 54th minute, when Purchase's freshman midfielder Breann McKeon scored off a corner kick to bump the Panthers ahead 1-0. 

Purchase maintained its lead until Kaler scored the equalizer in the 66th minute on a penalty kick. Minutes later, the Hawks jumped ahead to a 2-1 lead when sophomore defender Monica Rouse (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam) notched a goal from 30 yards out.

Kaler scored for the second time on an assist from senior midfielder Chelsea Weir (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) before she assisted junior defender Allison Vaccaro (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville) with the final goal to seal the 4-1 win.

The Hawks outshot the Panthers 20-9 on the night and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Kaler notched two goals and one assist, with Vaccaro collecting three shots and one goal. Senior midfielder Kristina Gandolfo (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) fired four shots off the bench, and sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Cordero (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) played all 90 minutes with two saves in goal.
