Box Score

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team delivered a 7-3 defeat to The College at Old Westbury on Tuesday afternoon at Loren Campbell Field.

The Hawks improve to 11-6-2 and travel to SUNY Oswego for a three-game State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) series. New Paltz will play the Lakers in its first game on Friday, April 1 at 3 p.m. The Panthers fall to 13-7 and move on to play Manhattanville College tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

A home run in the top of the second gave Old Westbury a 1-0 advantage but the Hawks responded in the bottom of the inning as junior left fielder Taylor Anderson (East New Market, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester) leveled the score, ripping a double to right field to send home sophomore center fielder Jake Williams (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford).

In the top of the fourth the Panthers seized the lead once again, scoring on a sacrifice fly before adding another run on a wild pitch for a 3-1 edge but the bottom of the inning saw New Paltz slice the score to 3-all as freshman shortstop Ryan Frost (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) hit an RBI double that brought in sophomore second baseman Anthony Pantano (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and senior third baseman Andrew DiNardo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay-East Fishkill).

The Hawks took control in the top of the sixth when DiNardo singled to place Pantano in scoring position before Anderson ripped another double to bring him home. DiNardo extended New Paltz's lead, scoring on a single by Frost before sophomore right fielder Nick DePietro (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Anderson home for a 6-3 margin.

DePietro scored an insurance run on a single by senior catcher Tyler Bell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) in the bottom of the eighth to claim the 7-3 victory for New Paltz.

The Hawks hammered out seven runs off 11 hits and committed just one error. Anderson went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run and two RBIs while DiNardo went 3-for-4 with two runs. Frost collected three RBIs and also went 3-for-4.
