OSWEGO, N.Y. – No. 13 SUNY Oswego pushed a three-run comeback in the bottom of the eighth to clip the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team, 5-4, in the final game of a State University of New York Athletic Confernce (SUNYAC) series on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Hawks drop to 11-9-2, 4-5 SUNYAC and returns home to host New York University on Tuesday, April 5 at 4 p.m. Oswego rises to 17-3, 4-2 SUNYAC and moves on to host Utica College on Tuesday, April 5 at 4 p.m.

Oswego took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as junior second baseman Zach Kollar and senior designated hitter Matt Capobianco each hit a single to bring home a run. The Lakers kept the Hawks scoreless until junior left fielder Taylor Anderson (East New Market, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester) singled to center field in the top of the fourth to drive in sophomore designated hitter Chris Moran (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and sophomore center fielder Jake Williams (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) for a 2-all game.

Sophomore catcher Tyler Laco (Commack, N.Y./Commack) led off the top of the fifth with a home run to pull the Hawks ahead, 3-2, before freshman shortstop Ryan Frost (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) scored on an Oswego error in the top of the seventh for a 4-2 advantage. The Hawks had a close call in the bottom of the inning when the Lakers loaded the bases but New Paltz made quick work of collecting the third out needed to send Oswego back into the field.

However the top of the eighth saw the Lakers load the bases once again. Despite the Lakers having two outs against them, junior center fielder Wes Randall stepped up to the plate and ripped a triple to drive in three runs to push Oswego ahead, 5-4. The Lakers retired three of four batters in the top of the ninth to take home the win.

Six New Paltz players combined for the team's six hits with Laco and Frost both going 1-for-3 with one run. Randall performed 2-for-4 at the plate for the Lakers with three RBIs while junior left fielder Myles Kutscher went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Sophomore pitcher Luke Christy (New York City, N.Y./NYC Lab High School for Collaborative Studies) shouldered the loss, allowing one run off one hit while striking out one batter. Senior pitcher Mickey Putillo picked up the win for Oswego, giving up one run off two hits and striking out three of the 11 batters he faced in three innings of work.
