NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday afternoon at the Mount Saint Mary Softball Complex, falling, 9-0, in five innings in game one before bouncing back with a 4-1 triumph in the nightcap.
New Paltz moves to 13-12 overall with the results and next visits The College at Brockport on Friday, April 22, for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. Mount Saint Mary moves to 17-10 overall with the results and next visits Farmingdale State College on Saturday, April 23, for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 9, New Paltz 0 (5 inn.)
Sophomore pitcher Cindy Connoly allowed just two hits in the circle for Mount Saint Mary in game one, helping the Knights win the game, 9-0, in five innings.
Mount Saint Mary scored one run in the first, three runs in the third and five runs in the fifth to earn the victory.

Alexa Mastando (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) and senior designated player
Katie Rutcofsky (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) each had a hit for New Paltz in game one, while junior second baseman Shannon Sommer and freshman right fielder Amanda Almodovar each notched three hits for the Knights.
Game 2: New Paltz 4, Mount Saint Mary 1
The Hawks salvaged the split in game two, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the first and never trailing in the 4-1 victory.

Julia Perhacs (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) with a single to left center in the third to make it a 2-0 game before Mount Saint Mary got on the board in the fourth with an RBI single.
New Paltz added insurance in the fifth, as a throwing error allowed Spriggs and Perhacs to score following a double steal.
Mastando and Perhacs each notched multiple hits for New Paltz, with Perhacs adding three stolen bases. For Mount Saint Mary, senior center fielder Sabrina Gordek led the way by going 3-for-3.
Junior pitcher
Taylor Corwin (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) earned the win in the circle for the Hawks, allowing one unearned run off six hits while striking out three. Senior pitcher Victoria Goldbach shouldered the loss, giving up four runs (one earned) off eight hits and two walks while striking out three.
