Game 1: New Paltz 6, NYU 1
New Paltz scored three runs in the fourth, and after that point, NYU was unable to bounce back, as the Hawks took game one, 6-1.
Junior first baseman
Anthony Diana (North Amawalk, N.Y./Somers) began the Hawks' fourth-inning rally with an RBI double that scored sophomore second baseman/shortstop
Anthony Pantano (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) from first. Two batters later, senior pitcher
Andrew DiNardo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay-East Fishkill) singled up the middle to plate Diana before senior catcher
Tyler Bell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) came around on a wild pitch to give New Paltz a 3-0 advantage.
The Violets erased the shutout bid with an RBI groundout in the fifth, but the Hawks swelled the lead to five with three runs in the sixth, as sophomore right fielder
Nick DePietro (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) drove in two runs off a single through the left side before later coming around to score on an error. NYU was unable to score from that point forward, as New Paltz emerged victorious.
Diana went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a double to lead the Hawk attack, while junior left fielder Adrian Spitz and senior second baseman Sy Cohen notched multiple hits for the Violets.
DiNardo earned the win on the mound for New Paltz, giving up one run on six hits and three walks while striking out three. NYU used four different pitchers in the loss, with the losing decision going to its starter, sophomore Cam Serapilio-Frank.
Game 2: New Paltz 3, NYU 0
Freshman pitcher
Justin Stybel (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and sophomore pitcher
Ryan Votypka (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) combined for a two-hit shutout in game two, as New Paltz completed the sweep with a 3-0 win.
DePietro put New Paltz on the board in the first by scoring during another runner's run-down, and in the fourth inning, DiNardo made it a 2-0 game with an RBI single through the right side. Finally, in the fifth, sophomore center fielder
Jake Williams (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) laced a triple into right field that plated DePietro, which spelled the final score.
DePietro batted 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two walks and two runs scored to lead the Hawks offensively.
Stybel yielded two hits and two walks while striking out two in six shutout innings for New Paltz to earn the win, while Votypka struck out the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to earn the save. Freshman pitcher Chad Johnstone shouldered the loss for NYU, permitting three runs off four hits and four walks while striking out three in five innings of work.
