CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team fell to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe No. 1 SUNY Cortland, 21-1, in its season finale on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks conclude the 2016 season with a 3-13 overall record and a 0-8 SUNYAC record. The Red Dragons improve to 16-0, 8-0 SUNYAC and will host the SUNYAC semifinals and final from Friday-Saturday, May 6-7.
Senior midfielder Tara Monaghan netted the Red Dragons' first goal within 11 seconds to break open the scoring but sophomore attacker
Caitlyn Morris (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) made it a 1-all game with an unassisted goal at the 28:33 mark. Cortland then scored 12 unanswered goals for a large 13-1 margin at the half. Coming out of the break, the Red Dragons fired off nine second half goals to provide the final 21-1 tally as the clock expired.

Colleen Roemer (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane) scooped up two ground balls each. Junior midfielder
Nicole Gottschalk (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) won three draw controls and caused one turnover for New Paltz.
Monaghan scored twice for the Red Dragons and recorded three assists, scooped up four ground balls, won seven draw controls and caused three turnovers. Junior attacker Kristen Ohberg and senior midfielder/attacker Elizabeth LaComb scored three goals while sophomore attacker Hannah Elmer, senior midfielder/attacker Nicole Bello, and freshman attacker Morgan Thompson each had two goals.
Roemer made five stops in the loss for New Paltz while junior goalie Jaclyn Beshlian had one save for Cortland.
