NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Playing in its first stand-alone home match this season, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team fell to visiting Stevens in straight sets 3-0 (27-29, 14-25, 16-25) on Wednesday night in the Hawk Center.
The Hawks fall to 3-6 on the year and will now prepare for the Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational this weekend, Sept. 16-17, facing Mount Saint Mary, FDU-Florham, Hunter and host Ramapo.

Meghan Keyes (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished with eight kills, hitting .115. Senior outside hitter
Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) led the attack with 10 kills while sophomore outside hitter Marissa Cantelmo (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill) came off the bench and chipped in four kills of her own. Junior setter
Maddie Zwickl (Chester, NY/Warwick Valley) paced the offense with 29 assists and recorded 10 digs.
In a tight opening set, New Paltz went ahead early 4-1 before the Ducks (9-1) knotted the contest. Stevens then went on a 6-2 run to put the Hawks behind 10-4. New Paltz battled back though and tied the set at 12-12 thanks to several Duck errors.
The set went back-and-forth with neither side claiming more than a two-point lead until Stevens went ahead 20-17. Three kills by Keyes helped New Paltz claw back and tie the set at 24 all and a kill by Roessler forced the set past 25 points. Unfortunately, the Ducks went on a 3-0 spurt to close out the first stanza.
The Hawks trailed 5-1 to begin the second period but bounced back and came within two (6-4) thanks to two kills by Roessler. Stevens then went on an 8-0 run to take a commanding 14-4 edge. New Paltz got within seven but the Ducks were too strong and claimed the second set.
The third and final set started in favor of Stevens as the Ducks went out to a 13-4 lead. Kills by Contelmo and Keyes brought the Hawks within six (16-10) but again Stevens clamped down and handed New Paltz the final third set defeat.
