BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Enjoying three first and second half scores, the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team cruised to a 6-1 road win at Brockport on Friday afternoon.
The Hawks (5-2, 2-0 SUNYAC) offense dominated the box score as New Paltz outshot the Golden Eagles (1-6, 0-1 SUNYAC) 33-7, with 27 shots getting on the cage. The Hawks also took 17 corners.
Senior back
Colleen Roemer (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) tallied two goals on seven shots while freshman forward
Sophia Urrutia (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) also notched two goals of her own to pace the New Paltz attack.
Senior forward
Erin Landy (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) and sophomore forward
Serena Capsello (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) both scored one goal apiece and senior forward
Kayla McKeveny (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) fired off seven total shots.
Junior keeper
Megan Gangewere (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) made four stops in net while freshman
Haylee Mello (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) came on in relief and played the final 12:35.
Urrutia started the scoring barrage for the Hawks by notching a goal in just the third minute of action. Landy tallied a goal in the 19
th minute and Urrutia tacked on her second in the 28
th minute as New Paltz went into intermission with a 3-1 cushion.
Roemer scored back-to-back goals in the second half (51
st and 58
th minute, respectively) and Capsello wrapped up the scoring with a tally in the 58
th minute as well.
The Hawks will travel to Geneseo tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match.
