In the opening period, New Paltz limited the Colonials (9-5 overall) to a .029 hitting percentage. The Hawks went ahead 10-5 and increased that lead to 13-7. However, West Conn battled back to within three (17-14) before three kills by Roessler down the stretch put the first set away.
The Hawks found themselves trailing 9-4 in the early goings of the second stanza before rallying for the come-from-behind win. Losing 15-9, New Paltz went on a 6-1 spurt, aided by kills from Roessler and Ramhorst, to get to within one (16-15). With the set knotted at 21, the visitors enjoyed two errors by the Colonials and a pair of Ramhorst kills to escape with the set two win.
New Paltz began the third and final set on a 10-5 run before the Colonials answered with a 5-1 spurt of their own to climb within one (11-10). However, with the set close at 21-20, kills by Ramhorst and Keyes gave the Hawks four straight points for the clean sweep of West Conn.
The Hawks are idle this weekend as New Paltz travels to Williams on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
