BUFFALO – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team kicked off the swimming portion State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center, ranking second out of nine teams with 163.5 points.
SUNY Geneseo leads the field with 315 points while The College at Brockport sits in third with 126.5 points. SUNY Cortland ranks fourth with 122 points, followed by SUNY Oneonta in fifth (117), SUNY Fredonia in sixth (88), SUNY Oswego in sixth (79), SUNY Potsdam in eighth (73) and Buffalo State in ninth (23).
Action continues at the meet tomorrow, with preliminary heats set for 10 a.m. and finals slated for 5:30 p.m.

Nicole Lee (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale), junior
Katie Donlevy (Bayside, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy), senior
Aimee Del Favero (Auburn, N.Y./Home School) and junior
Molly McCulloch (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent) captured a second-place finish with a time of 1:36.83, to kick off the evening session.
Senior
Ann Fici (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) placed eighth in the 500 freestyle, clocking in a time of 5:25.36, while junior
Lindsay Feminella (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph-by-the-Sea) tied for 13
th in the consolation final with a time of 5:32.17.
Sophomore
Jaimie Kaefer (North Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) earned a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley, touching the pad in a time of 2:09.87 while junior
Megan Joseph (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) placed seventh in a time of 2:12.28.
Lee shaved 10 seconds off of her time from the morning in the 50 freestyle and ended up finishing third overall in the event with a time of 24.23. Freshman
Chelsea Angulas (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego Free Academy) also made it into the final round and clocked in at 24.97 for an eighth-place finish while Del Favero (24.86) and McCulloch (24.90) placed ninth and 10
th, respectively, in the consolation final.
However New Paltz's biggest win came in the 400 medley relay as the quartet of Angulas, Donlevy, Kaefer and Lee led the Hawks to a first-place finish with a time of 3:56.60 to close out the night.
