BUFFALO – After 27 completed events, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team remains second out of nine teams with 386 points as day two of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Swimming & Diving Championships concludes at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center at Erie Community College.
SUNY Geneseo tops the field with 607 points while SUNY Cortland follows behind New Paltz with 336 points. SUNY Oneonta (fourth, 275), The College at Brockport (fifth, 216), SUNY Oswego (sixth, 191), SUNY Potsdam (seventh, 174), SUNY Fredonia (eighth, 138) and Buffalo State (ninth, 41) round out the field.
The final day of the SUNYAC Championships will start tomorrow with the preliminary heats slated for 10 a.m and the finals set for 5:30 p.m.
New Paltz claimed the top finish in the 200 medley relay as the quartet of freshman
Chelsea Angulas (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego Free Academy), junior
Megan Joseph (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge), senior
Aimee Del Favero (Auburn, N.Y./Home School) and sophomore
Nicole Lee (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) posted a time of 1:47.69.
In the 100 backstroke, Angulas shaved off time her time in the morning preliminaries to earn second-place honors, touching the pad in 58.61 seconds, while freshman
Samantha Woll (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) tied for sixth-place with a time of 1:00.99.
Sophomore
Katie Donlevy (Bayside, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) and Joseph went 2-3 in the 100 breaststroke with Donlevy touching the pad in 1:07.32 while Joseph followed behind in 1:07.77. Sophomore
Jaimie Kaefer (North Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) also beat her prelim time in the 400 individual medley to earn a third-place finish, clocking in at 4:40.61, while senior
Ann Fici (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppague) placed seventh in 4:53.61
Rounding out the individual events were junior
Molly McCulloch (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent) (1:00.16) and Del Favero (1:00.91) who earned sixth and eighth-place finishes, respectively, in the 100 butterfly.
The Hawks concluded the night with a second-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay as the team of Angulas, Fici, Donlevy and Kaefer posted a time of 7:59.42.
