NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team fell, 20-6, to visiting No. 9 ranked SUNY Cortland in the Hawks' State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener on Saturday afternoon at the North Turf Field.

New Paltz (4-3, 0-1 SUNYAC) looks to bounce back on Tuesday, April 4 when the Hawks travel to play conference and Catskill Cup rival SUNY Oneonta in a 4 p.m. contest. Cortland rises to 5-2, 1-0 SUNYAC.

Senior midfielder Alexa Criollo (Queens, N.Y./Forest Hills) recorded three goals to lead the New Paltz offense. Senior midfielder Nicole Gottschalk (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) finished the day with two goals and four ground balls while junior attacker Caitlyn Morris (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) added one goal and two ground balls.

Senior attacker Nicole Stackpole (North Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) won three draw controls for New Paltz while sophomore goalkeeper Kendra Dansereau (Chesapeake, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) made six saves in goal to earn the loss.

Senior attacker Kristen Ohberg paced the Red Dragons with six goals, two assists and scooped up six ground balls while freshman midfielder Lexie Meager registered three goals and won three draw controls. Senior goalie Jaclyn Beshlian took home the win for Cortland, making one save in the net.

Despite being down by four (9-5) at the end of the first half, the Red Dragons were able to outscore the Hawks, 11-1, in the second period to take home the 20-6 victory.
