Women’s Lacrosse Drops 16-5 Decision to Geneseo

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Despite a four goal rally in the second period, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team fell, 16-5, to visiting SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at the North Turf Field.

The Hawks drop to 4-5, 0-3 SUNYAC and will head out on the road to play SUNY Oswego on Tuesday, April 11 at 4 p.m. Geneseo rises to 4-6, 1-2 SUNYAC.

Seniors Melissa Wagner (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) and Alexa Criollo (Queens, N.Y./Forest Hills) registered two goals apiece for New Paltz while senior Nicole Gottschalk (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) tallied one goal, two caused turnovers and won three draw controls in the loss.

Junior Caitlyn Morris (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) picked up three ground balls in the contest with freshmen Jahna Beiling (Rochester, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and Ashley Seiter (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Mount Sinai) scooping up two ground balls and recording two caused turnovers each.

Sophomore Kendra Dansereau (Chesapeake, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) made six saves in goal for the Hawks and picked up one ground ball.

For the Knights, junior Erin Cregan tallied six goals and picked up three ground balls while freshman Tessa Doody scored four goal and also scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers. Senior Kathleen DePillo registered two goals and two assists while sophomore Carly Cullen also recorded two goals and won four draw controls. Sophomore Tess McFadden made two stops in goal to earn the win.

Although Geneseo opened the game with a 2-0 lead, New Paltz was able to respond on a man-up goal by Wagner for a 2-1 score. However the Knights would fire off three consecutive goals for a 5-1 advantage at halftime.

New Paltz fought back in the second period, cutting the deficit to 7-5, but could not hold off the Knights' offensive pressure as they registered nine unanswered goals to take home the 16-5 victory.
