Box Score Union, NJ — The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team fell on the road against Kean University Tuesday night, 3-0.
The Hawks (10-6 overall) came off an exciting 2-1 double overtime victory Saturday against rival SUNY Oneonta to clinch the top seed in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament. They couldn't double down on their success, however, suffering their fifth non-conference defeat of the season against the Cougars (8-10 overall).
Kean took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Jenna Patrone scored in the 23rd minute. The Cougars added two more goals early on in the second half in the 40th and 49th minute to extend their advantage, 3-0.
SUNY New Paltz totaled 10 shots and seven corners in the game, but registered only two shots on target, while Kean totaled 24 shots, 10 corners with 13 shots on frame.
Ryan Dowling earned the start in goal for the Hawks and made eight saves.
SUNY New Paltz is back home Saturday for its regular season finale against Vassar College at 1 p.m.
