For the sixth time in his 17 year career, State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball coach Matt Giufre has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year.
Along with his Coach of the Year nod, which was
announced by the conference office Tuesday, five others were named to the All-SUNYAC team including Taylor Cimillo and Meredith Dignan earning first team nods, Madison Van Pelt on the second team, and Nicole Fellone and Kerri Neville making the third team.
The 2018 season represented one of Giufre's best years in his New Paltz career. A 24-8 regular season where the Hawks went 8-1 in SUNYAC play, led to a dominant SUNYAC Tournament in which the Hawks dropped just one set. On Nov. 3, they staved off a late rally by top-seeded SUNY Geneseo to sweep the final game in three sets, bringing home the program's third SUNYAC championship, all coming under Giufre.
SUNY New Paltz's season continues on Friday in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament, as the Hawks will take on the Diplomats of Franklin and Marshall College, with the hope to win their first national title in team history.
