SUNY New Paltz Men's Basketball Suffer 76-60 Loss on the Road Against Baruch College

| By:
Box Score New York, NY — Just three days after coming away with one of the program's most dramatic victories in recent memory, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball was back in action Tuesday, traveling to Baruch College.

The Hawks (4-4 overall) struggled finding rhythm offensively against a stout defensive team in the Bearcats (7-2). SUNY New Paltz scored a season-low in the, 76-60 loss, shooting just 36.8 percent from the field, while getting out-rebounded, 47-33, including 17-10 on the offensive glass.

The loss ends a two-game winning streak for the Hawks, who recently earned a 79-77 overtime win at home against SUNY Oneonta, while Baruch totaled its fifth win in six games.

"Baruch is a great defensive team and we knew that," said SUNY New Paltz coach Keith Kenney. "They were better than us tonight. They out-worked us with second effort offensive rebounds and we could not get anything going offensively."

Cory Garcia gave the Hawks the opening lead with an offensive put-back on the their first possession, but a 6-0 run by Baruch put the Bearcats in front and they never relinquished the advantage from then on.

SUNY New Paltz kept the game within two possessions for most of the first half, but Baruch started to build a cushion as the first period went on, taking a 15 point lead with 1 minute, 19 seconds remaining before the break. The Hawks ended the half strong, however, as back-to-back 3's by Garcia and Tristan Wissemann cut the deficit down to nine.

Although the Hawks kept the second half close, they never threatened the Bearcats' advantage. The closest SUNY New Paltz got was within six following a made jumper by Keith Seaman with about 10 minutes remaining in the game.

The Hawks struggled to penetrate Baruch's defense and was limited with one-shot possessions due to the Bearcats' dominance on the glass, allowing them to go up by double-figures following an 8-1 run after Seaman's bucket midway through the half.

Wissemann led SUNY New Paltz with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists. Nick Paquette followed with 10 points off the bench, while adding three rebounds and a steal, while Seaman and Brandon Scott each netted eight points off the bench with Seaman adding three assists and Scott pulling down five rebounds.

The Hawks, who are undefeated at home, will look to improve upon their road record as they enter the Medgar Evers College Tournament Dec. 29 and 30.

"We have a lot to improve on especially playing on the road, but I am happy with our first semester and look forward to December 29," Kenney said.
