SUNY New Paltz Women's Lacrosse Cap Off Season At The College at Brockport

| By:
The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team concludes its season on the road against The College at Brockport Saturday.

The Hawks (5-8 overall, 1-6 SUNYAC) hope to end their season strong and earn another conference victory to surpass last year's mark. They are coming off a tough overtime home loss against Fredonia State (1-13, 1-6) April 21, and are looking to bounce back against a solid Golden Eagles (6-8, 5-2) team who has won six of their last eight games.

SUNY New Paltz is aiming to spoil The College at Brockport's final home game, which will not only serve as its senior day, but also will have playoff implications on the line as the Golden Eagles are fighting for the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC tournament with SUNY Geneseo.Massena_GIF

"That is what we're really hoping for is to kind of mess up their senior day," said Hawks senior attacker Kayla Massena. "I think everybody on their senior day kind of assumes a win and runs off of adrenaline, and we're hoping to come in and put a stop to that right from the very beginning and end on a high note for us."

The College at Brockport is coming off a loss as well, losing on the road to No. 18 SUNY Cortland, 16-13. Prior to that defeat, the Golden Eagles had won five-straight and defeated the opposition to a combined score of, 94-33.

This season, The College at Brockport has averaged about 13 goals per game, while allowing 12 goals against.

"We definitely want to give them a fight. We want to show the SUNYAC something this year, so this is our last chance to do it and scare them for next year," said SUNY New Paltz senior attacker Caitlyn Morris. "We definitely want to end the season strong. It is the last game for the three of us seniors, so it is a big game. We just want to put out our best effort and try and give Brockport a run for their money on senior day."

Sara Grapevine is The College at Brockport's offensive statistical leader, totaling 23 goals and 26 assists on the year with a shot percentage of .575. Heather Conklin is the team's top goal scorer, totaling 33 on the year to go along with nine assists, while Jade Williams isn't too far behind with 32 goals and four assists.

Sarah Brown has played the majority of minutes in goal for the Golden Eagles and has registered 110 saves with a .460 save percentage and a record of 6-5.

"It is really important for us to end the year on a solid note," Massena added. "We've had a lot of trials and triumphs. We've overcome a lot of obstacles and have gotten better throughout the season and we would love nothing more than to end with a W, and we think that is really possible for us. We're putting in the work to make our last week the best week we've had so far."

Freshmen Amy Hofer and Tara Bovich go into the Hawks' final contest leading the team offensively. Hofer has totaled 30 goals and five assists in 13 games played, while Bovich recorded 28 goals and six assists in 11 games played. Morris is SUNY New Paltz's top assist leader with 14, and follows Hofer and Bovich with 19 total points.
