SUNY New Paltz Women's Lacrosse Falls In Season Finale Against The College at Brockport

| By:
Box Score Brockport, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team finished its season on the road against The College at Brockport at Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shrive Stadium Saturday.

The Hawks (5-9 overall, 1-7 SUNYAC) fought back in the second half, scoring five goals, but couldn't limit the Golden Eagles (7-8, 6-2) offensively, and ultimately fell in their season finale, 19-8.

"The team did a very good job adjusting and finishing out a solid last half of the season," said SUNY New Paltz coach Keith Detelj. "Their resilience and willingness to learn and out work showed through in the second half."Bovich_GIF

The College at Brockport dominated possession early, winning four consecutive draw controls and played aggressive in the midfield to keep the ball in the Hawks' defensive zone for most of the first half and it resulted in the Golden Eagles rattling off six-straight goals. Tara Bovich put an end to the run for SUNY New Paltz, netting an unassisted goal with about 21 minutes left before the break.

Rachael Purtell won the ensuing draw for the Hawks, and the team got a few good looks on the cage in the following offensive set, but The College at Brockport goalie, Sarah Brown, came up with back-to-back-to-back saves to keep SUNY New Paltz at bay. The Golden Eagles got the ball back down to their offensive end and added another before Caitlyn Morris put away the Hawks' second of the day to make the score, 7-2.

The two teams traded scores once more in the half, as Jennifer O'Leary finished a pass from teammate Emily Puciloski to answer a Golden Eagles goal. However, The College at Brockport finished the last 12 minutes of the first half on a 5-0 run to break the game open and take a commanding, 13-3, lead at the break.

Bovich led the Hawks with three goals in the game and finishes the season as the team's top point leader with 31 goals and six assists. Morris followed with a goal and an assist on the day, while Ashley Seiter netted two of three shots.

Nicole Sheintul faced 43 shots in net for SUNY New Paltz and made 16 saves in the game. On the draw Sarah Raynock, Keydy Espinosa and Purtell led the way, totaling five and three draw controls apiece, respectively, to help the Hawks win 14-of-29 draws.

"The team this season has provided a positive foundation to build upon for years to come," Detelj added. "And the coaching staff is very proud of the work they have put in this year."
