Saratoga Springs, NY -- The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team traveled to Saratoga Springs to face Skidmore College Saturday and suffered its fourth loss of the season after the, 3-0, defeat.
Coming off a 4-0 loss against Montclair State University Saturday, the Hawks (0-4) had another tough test against the Thoroughbreds, who were coming off back-to-back wins to start the season.
Skidmore out-shot SUNY New Paltz, 16-2, in the first half, but the Hawks' defense, backed by Megan Tornatore in net, held strong to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
Despite creating more scoring opportunities on the offensive end and limiting the Thoroughbreds to just nine shots in the second half, SUNY New Paltz was unable to capitalize on their chances and could not keep Skidmore off the board. The Thoroughbreds broke through to score goals in the 56th, 71st and 82nd minute to pull away for the win.
Like in their loss against the Red Hawks, the Hawks struggled defensively in its box, which led to numerous dangerous chances for Skidmore.
"Our sense of urgency in the box on both sides needs to be better," said Eckberg."The biggest question is to address how we will respond moving forward."
Tornatore played all 90 minutes Saturday, facing 14 shots on target and making a season-high 11 stops. Taylor Filippone led the team with two shots on goal.
The Hawks are looking to earn their first win of the season Saturday, when they take on Bard College on the South Turf Field at 4 p.m. To stay up to date with everything #NPHawks be sure to follow on Twitter at @nphawks, Instagram and Facebook at @newpaltzhawks, and subscribe to our Youtube channel, New Paltz Hawks.
