After falling short of a title in the 2019 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament last season, the State University of New York at New Paltz softball team is getting ready to return to the playoff scene in its 2020 campaign with the hope of winning a SUNYAC championship.
The Hawks are guided by second-year coach Krysti Maronski, who led SUNY New Paltz to its winningest season yet with a 26-12 overall record and 12-6 record in conference play.
SUNY New Paltz will open up its season on the road as it faces Rutgers University-Camden (NJ) in a doubleheader March 6 in Camden. The following day (March 7), the Hawks will travel to Glassboro, NJ to take on Rowan University in another doubleheader.
SUNY New Paltz remains on the road as it travels to Clermont, Florida to compete in the PFX Spring Games. The Hawks start game play versus Ohio Wesleyan University on March 14 followed by another game (March 14) against a team that has yet to be determined. SUNY New Paltz will play a doubleheader the next day against Rutgers University-Newark (March 15) followed by Bethel University. March 17 the Hawks will continue their tournament play with a doubleheader against Tufts University followed by Eastern Connecticut State University. SUNY New Paltz has another doubleheader taking on William Paterson University followed by Amherst College March 19 and to finish up its tournament play, the Hawks will take on St. Norbert College and Arcadia University (March 20) in their last doubleheader before heading home.
In its first appearance after the PFX Spring Games, SUNY New Paltz will take on Ramapo College in a doubleheader on March 25th in Mahwah, NJ.
The Hawks then start State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play with their first home game of the season, facing defending SUNYAC Champions, SUNY Cortland on the Mary Gray Deane field for a doubleheader March 27. After taking on the Red Dragons, the Hawks will play another SUNYAC conference competitor, SUNY Oswego on March 28 in a double header at home.
The month of April will begin with SUNY New Paltz traveling across the river to Mount Saint Mary April 1 before heading back into SUNYAC play against SUNY Oneonta April 4. The Hawks will take on Division II's College of Staten Island April 8 in the last non-conference game of the season before heading into 14 -straight conference games, including a matchup with No. 2 in the region SUNY Geneseo April 24 on their home field.
SUNY New Paltz close the 2020 season away taking on SUNY Brockport (April 25).
The SUNYAC tournament is scheduled to begin April 30th and end May 2nd on the campus of the number one seed.
