New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz has named Victor Fernandez as its Director of Sports Communication, effective Aug. 17.
"Excited to welcome Victor as our new Director of Sports Communication!" said Director of Athletics, Wellness, and Recreation Renee Bostic. "Victor's diverse experience and fresh perspective come at a pivotal time as we begin a new era in the NJAC and NEWMAC. We look forward to the impact he will have in elevating the visibility and success of SUNY New Paltz Athletics."
Fernandez joins the athletic department after spending the past three years at Hartwick College, where he began as an Assistant Sports Information Director before being elevated to Director of Sports Information after a little more than a year.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join SUNY New Paltz and to take over a communications department with such a strong foundation already in place," said Fernandez. "A huge thank you to Renee Bostic and Ron Baines for believing in me and trusting me to continue elevating New Paltz Athletics."
During his time at Hartwick, Fernandez served in a variety of roles across the athletic department, overseeing communications efforts for 21 NCAA Division III programs. In addition to leading the department's sports information efforts, he assisted with game contracts and scheduling, compliance-related tasks and other department-wide responsibilities.
Prior to joining New Paltz, Fernandez spent a brief stint with Army West Point Athletics, serving as a facilities operator. As an undergraduate at SUNY Delhi, Fernandez gained extensive experience in both game-day operations and athletic communications, eventually taking on a majority of the department's sports information responsibilities during its search for a full-time sports information director.
Fernandez arrives at SUNY New Paltz ahead of a new era for Hawks Athletics, with the department beginning competition in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) during the 2026-27 academic year following its transition from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
