GAME PREVIEW: SUNY New Paltz Women's Lacrosse Looking to Bounce Back Against Farmingdale State

| By:

After a tough loss Monday against Stockton University, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team looks forward to overturning its luck at its second home game of the season Wednesday against Farmingdale State College.

The Hawks (1-2 overall) dropped its last game, 15-4 to the Ospreys at their home opener despite having multiple standout performances. Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Timarky made eight saves while facing nine free positions, while sophomore offensive midfielder Keydy Espinoza was responsible for four draw controls. Junior attacker Jennifer O'Leary scored her first goal of the season in a graceful play that involved spinning around the crease and slipping the ball into Stockton's net. Although disappointed with the result, SUNY New Paltz hopes to use the loss as motivation against the Rams Wednesday. lacrosse_huddle

"I hope they put it behind them as a bad performance and step onto the field with a new testament to what they really can play," said Hawks coach Keith Detelj.

SUNY New Paltz hasn't played Farmingdale since 2017, where they fell to the Rams, 13-7. Both teams have graduated out and replaced half their members since then, and the Hawks feel confident entering the game with their younger additions, who will face Farmingdale for the first time.

Sophomore attackers Tara Bovich and Amy Hofer lead SUNY New Paltz in goals this season, already racking up seven and five, respectively. Freshman attacker Katie Zito has proved to be an asset, contributing four assists and one goal after three games. Espinoza leads the team with eight ground balls and eight draw controls.

The Rams' record has dropped significantly since 2017, which had been 18-2 overall, closing their 2018 season with a 7-9 mark. Farmingdale enters the contest Wednesday with an 0-3 record, all of which have been significant losses, most notably falling 11-6 to Marywood University, a team the Hawks had no trouble dominating 15-7 last season. In contrast, SUNY New Paltz has maintained a 5-9 record since the two last met.

"We're going to go back to saying that we gotta put the best product out there, and you know, hopefully they step up for Farmingdale," Detelj said.

The Hawks are back for their second home game Wednesday on the North Turf at 4 p.m. to challenge the Rams.
