Box Score New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team collected its second-straight win at home Saturday on the North Turf field, dominating Manhattanville, 22-12.
The Hawks (3-2 overall) went through a three-game home stretch this past week and after suffering a lopsided loss Monday to Stockton University. They bounced back to earn solid wins over the Valiants and Farmingdale State Wednesday to a combined score of 39-19, riding momentum with one game left before conference play.
This win definitely gives us a lot of confidence, but we can't rely on that. We got to keep pushing forward," said SUNY New Paltz freshman attacker
Katie Zito. "We have to keep pushing ourselves to keep getting bigger and better wins."
The Valiants (3-1) scored the first goal of the game after Bella Consentino grabbed the opening draw, ran it down field and earned the unassisted score just 15 seconds into the game. However, the Hawks (3-2) answered with five-straight goals from five different players to take the lead and never let go the rest of the way.
"It's awesome to see everyone get in on the action," adde Zito, who finished with three goals on five shot attempts on the day. "We definitely like to play a big team offense, not just have a few drivers or a few scorers."
Manhattanville broke up the run with back-to-back goals by Hailey Destasio and Lara Keenan around the 19-minute mark, but SUNY New Paltz proceeded to rattle off three more goals with
Tara Bovich starting the run with about 18 minutes left in the half. Bovich assisted on the ensuing goal to
Keydy Espinoza with
Amy Hofer and
Rachael Purtell piling on in the following three minutes.
The Hawks held the momentum the rest of the way, as they ended the first half on a 5-0 run to go into the break leading, 17-6.

SUNY New Paltz rolled through the second half, as time continued to tick with the 10-plus point differential. Ten different players registered at least one point in the game for the Hawks, while everyone saw time on the field.
"It is great to see when they share the ball like that and there's many options," said SUNY New Paltz coach
Keith Detelj. "I think it is going to be very difficult for other teams to see that we [have] threats everywhere on the field, and the defense did a great job of shutting down two of their main players. All around it was a very good showing for us."
Hofer led the way with seven goals and an assist, while Bovich followed with four goals and an assist.
Jennifer O'Leary and Zito both added three goals, while Purtell chipped in with two goals on the day.
Haley Timarky picked up the win after making four saves in net for the Hawks.
SUNY New Paltz dominated in all facets of the game, out-shooting the Valiants (41-17), winning the turnover battle (16-20), registering more ground balls (15-6) and draw controls (20-14).
Espinoza was crucial in the circle, picking up six draw controls to lead her team, followed by Purtell with five.
The Hawks are back in action Tuesday on the road against Eastern Connecticut State University for a 6:30 p.m. game.
