After a dominating victory in its conference opener Saturday against SUNY Potsdam, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team is looking for a repeat performance in its match against Plattsburgh State Wednesday.
"The game against Potsdam… we went out, had so much desire to win," said sophomore Hawks goalkeeper
Haley Timarky, who notched a career high of eight saves during the game. "It was our first SUNYAC game, we were pumped. The weather was kind of not on our side; it was very cold, but despite that I think we really outworked Potsdam and just kept pushing through the whole game."
SUNY New Paltz (5-2 overall, 1-0 conference) maintained their impressive winning streak, making SUNY Potsdam the fourth team to suffer a loss to the Hawks. SUNY New Paltz's 12 goals came from seven different players, including freshman attacker
Katie Zito (3), sophomore attacker
Amy Hofer (3), junior attacker
Jennifer O'Leary, freshman offensive midfielder
Maddy Carullo and junior attacker
Emily Puciloski. Sophomore attacker
Tara Bovich contributed two goals and two assists, earning the title of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Offensive Player of the Week and elevated her to a total of 30 points for the season.
"We're very excited going into our game with Plattsburgh," continued Timarky. "We were very excited with Potsdam and that wasn't even our home nest, so this Wednesday we're even more pumped for our first SUNYAC home game."
The Cardinals are in the midst of their inaugural season. The new team enters the match against the Hawks with a 1-6 overall record. Their lone win came from a 17-1 victory over the Sage Colleges at the beginning of their season, but they have been unable to keep the electricity alive. Plattsburgh began its SUNYAC season Saturday with a discouraging start; the first-year program faced 20-time reigning SUNYAC champions, SUNY Cortland and suffered their fifth consecutive loss after the 21-1 defeat.

Plattsburgh suffered a loss to Hartwick College, 18-9, a team the Hawks were more evenly matched with, but ultimately defeated in overtime, 9-8. Despite never facing the Cardinals in the past, SUNY New Paltz is confident in its previous success and the knowledge it has gained as an experienced SUNYAC team.
"We've really been drilling defense and getting the cutters and really just working hard, keeping our eyes open, knowing everything that's going on and we've just been working to communicate better to work as a team together," Timarky said.
The Hawks will host Plattsburgh State on the North Turf on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
