For its last State University of New York at New Paltz Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) series, the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team will travel to Plattsburgh State for a three-game set April 27-28.
Â
"We just want to go out there and play hard," said Hawks senior outfielder
Danny Campbell. "Some of us have three guaranteed games left to play for the name on the front of our jerseys. As a whole, we want to play for pride and just win some ball games."
SUNY New Paltz moved to 11-17 overall after dropping a non-conference game to Vassar College Wednesday, 14-4. The Hawks are currently in last place in the SUNYAC with a 3-12 conference record and hope to boost their place with a series win this weekend.
Â
Holding an overall record of 25-15 against the Cardinals, SUNY New Paltz has found success matching up with Plattsburgh State in the past. The Hawks have won the last three series, beating the Cardinals two out of three games in 2017 and 2016, while sweeping Plattsburgh State with 17-10, 4-2 and 8-5 victories in 2018.
Â
The Cardinals find themselves in a similar situation as SUNY New Paltz, sitting at 11-18 overall and 5-10 in the conference. Most recently Plattsburgh State earned a series win against Fredonia State with 2-1 and 6-2 wins while losing 4-1. The Cardinals also beat Union College 8-4 Tuesday, but dropped a Wednesday match against Clarkson University 7-2.
Â
A series win for Plattsburgh State could boost the Cardinals into the playoffs past the 6-12 Oneonta State.
Â
Game one and game two of the series will start at 1 p.m. Saturday in a doubleheader. The series will resume Sunday for game three at 12 p.m.Â
