SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Releases 2019 Schedule

NEW PALTZ, NY-- After another conference championship winning season with a young group in 2018, the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team not only eyes a back-to-back State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship, but also a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

As usual, Hawks coach Shanna Szablinski (11th season) stacked SUNY New Paltz's non-conference schedule in hopes to prepare her group for the national tournament. The Hawks open up 2019 against St. Lawrence University in Utica, NY on August 31 before hosting Montclair State University, a team SUNY New Paltz barely lost to last season, falling 2-1 on the road.

SUNY New Paltz stay on the road, but take a short trip across the Hudson River to face Vassar College, which was ranked No. 2 in the country when the Hawks faced them last season. In treacherous weather conditions, the Brewers bested the hosts, 2-0 in SUNY New Paltz's regular season finale.

The Hawks are back home to face Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before having matchups against St. John Fisher College, Skidmore College and University of Rochester — all perennial nationally ranked programs that defeated SUNY New Paltz a season ago with the games against the Cardinals and Thoroughbreds having gone into overtime.

SUNYAC play will start on the road for the Hawks, taking on Oswego State Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. and The College at Brockport Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. SUNY New Paltz's first home SUNYAC game is Oct. 12 against SUNY Geneseo, which the Hawks defeated in the SUNYAC semifinal last season.

A rematch of 2018's SUNYAC Championship game, SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Cortland will face off for the first time in 2019 Oct. 26 on the North Turf Field at 1 p.m. The Hawks then will conclude their regular season schedule at home against Catskill Cup rival SUNY Oneonta Oct. 30 at 3:30 p.m.

The SUNYAC Tournament is set to start Nov. 6 with the championship game scheduled for Nov. 9 with the NCAA Tournament slated for Nov. 13.
