SUNY New Paltz Men's Basketball Takes 88-59 Loss on the Road Against Brockport

Brockport, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz were about 12 minutes away from possibly pulling an upset over The College at Brockport Saturday in Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

The Hawks (4-9 overall, 0-6 SUNYAC) were within five points of the conference leading Golden Eagles with about 12 minutes left in the game, but the hosts countered with a 14-0 run that led to SUNY New Paltz's sixth conference loss of the season after ultimately falling, 88-59.

The Hawks carried a six-point lead midway through the first half following a pair of free throws by Isaiah Bien-Aise. Brockport answered with an 11-0 run to re-gain the advantage at 23-18.

After tying the score twice, Tristan Wissemann put SUNY New Paltz back ahead, 26-25 with four minutes left in the half. The score was knotted at 28 and 30-all down the stretch, but the Golden Eagles' Tyler Sullivan had the last bucket of the half to push the hosts up, 35-33 at the break.

Jake Passaretti capitalized on a Wissemann steal with a transition basket to get the Hawks within two, but that was the closest they would get to taking the lead. Nick Arthur trimmed the deficit to five following an and-one with about 12 minutes to go, but Brockport answered with a run that SUNY New Paltz couldn't overcome. The Hawks hit six-straight shots during the stretch until a pair of made free throws by Scott Reisert put an end to the run.

Resiert finished with a team-high 17 points, shooting 7-for-14 from the field, while registering nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks and one steal. Wissemann followed with 14 points, two rebounds and three assists, followed by Passaretti with 12 points (6-14) five rebounds and three assists.

SUNY New Paltz is back on the floor Tuesday, taking on SUNY Cortland at 7:30 p.m. in Corey Gymnasium.
