Cortland, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its weekly awards Monday and State University of New York at New Paltz senior forward
Paige Niemeyer was named as the women's basketball SUNYAC/PrestoSports Athlete of the Week. She joins fellow senior
Philesha Teape to be named this season for the weekly honor.
Niemeyer led the Hawks to two wins on the week after setting, and then matching a career-high 23 points against SUNY Cortland and Buffalo State. Against the the Red Dragons, Niemeyer was the catalyst in putting SUNY New Paltz in position to re-take the lead late in the game. She finished with her first double-double of the season, and second of her career after pulling down 10 rebounds on the night — six of which came on the offensive glass, while registering two assists and a game-high three blocks.

In a 66-60 win over the Bengals in the Hawk Center Friday, Niemeyer again led her team offensively with a game-high 23 points, while also filling up the rest of the stat sheet. The North Chatham, NY native registered a game-high three blocks, to go along with five rebounds, three assists and three steals, while playing a team-high 36 minutes in the victory. She was crucial in the Hawks win over Fredonia Saturday as well, finishing second on the team with 12 points, while adding six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a game-high two blocks. SUNY New Paltz went on to collect its eighth conference victory and stayed perfect at home after defeating the Blue Devils, 53-40.
Through the weekend, Niemeyer is currently ranked third all-time in program history with 76 career blocks, and is atop the SUNYAC with 34 blocks on the season, which is already 10th best all-time in Hawks single-season history.
Niemeyer will next lead SUNY New Paltz in a Saturday matchup at home against Catskill Cup rival SUNY Oneonta. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
