New York, NY —The State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team (8-2, 0-1 UVC) swept Baruch College (5-5) on Thursday night in New York City as the Hawks put on a convincing showing, now on a two-game winning streak.
SUNY New Paltz won 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-22) as coach
Radu Petrus was able to rotate some players to give them a chance for some more playing time and experience. Sophomore opposite
Brendan Spulnick had a game-high 10 kills, followed by senior middle blocker
Tevin Skeete with eight kills and sophomore outside hitter
Chris Shanley with six.
The first set was close throughout, as the Hawks and Bearcats were tied up at 17, 18, 19 and 21 points before SUNY New Paltz sophomore
John Ronan connected on two kills with Skeete finishing off the set with one of his eight kills to win it, 25-22.
In the second set the Hawks turned on the heat, pushing forward early with
Dan LaRosa recording an ace at 16-6. Baruch made a late push though, and scored five consecutive points to cut the deficit to 23-19, but a service error, which was then followed with an ace by Hawks sophomore opposite
Matt Logel won the set for the visitors, 25-19.

In the third, SUNY New Paltz scored four consecutive points to take a 10-6 lead after a Spulnick kill. The Bearcats scored five points in a quick stretch to cut the score to 20-19, forcing a Hawks timeout. SUNY New Paltz committed two service errors late, but junior outside hitter
Tenzin Kunga and Skeete won the set with two kills to complete the sweep.
Sophomore setter
Cam Clark earned the start for the Hawks at the ARC Arena and tallied 18 assists, giving senior captain
Matthew Grace, who just set the university record for career assists, a well-deserved rest.
Sophomores Spulnick and LaRosa recorded two aces each, while Ronan led SUNY New Paltz defensively with four blocks against the Bearcats.
The Hawks hit .195 on the night off of 82 attacks, and recorded six aces to Baruch's one, as they rolled to an easy win.
SUNY New Paltz next hosts a tri-match Saturday in the Hawk Center, facing Nazareth College and Arcadia University at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively
