New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's lacrosse program finalized its coaching staff with the hiring of assistant
J.D. Colarusso who will assist inaugural head coach
Dwayne Stewart in the Hawks' first season.

Colarusso is a 2018 graduate of the University at Albany where he was a standout goalkeeper by his senior campaign, leading the team to a historic 16-3 record, and taking them to the semifinals of the NCAA tournament for the first time. Colarusso capped off his senior year with First-Team All-American Honors and Most Outstanding Goalkeeper by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Colarusso will be primarily working with defensive coordination and the goalies.
"I am very excited for the opportunity to be able to coach this team and build a great culture," said Colarusso. "I will be bringing a lot of enthusiasm and knowledge to the team."
As a two-year reserve goalkeeper with a redshirt junior year, Colarusso worked his way into the starting position by his third official season for the Great Danes. Ending his career with two breakout seasons, saving 179 goals in 2017 and 180 goals in 2018, he helped the program achieve their most successful season to date, falling short of Yale in the NCAA tournament semifinal game.
With a deep understanding of the goalkeeping position, Colarusso will help formulate the defense for the Hawks' inaugural season. He and head coach
Dwayne Stewart share the same alma mater; their coaching styles should mesh seamlessly.
The Hawks will begin its inaugural 2020 season at home on the South Turf Field Feb. 28 against Elmira College at 3 p.m.
