Bard, N.Y. — The State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team (11-3, 2-1 UVC) swept Bard College (1-13, 0-3 UVC) Wednesday night in its third United Volleyball Conference (UVC) match of the year.
SUNY New Paltz made quick work of its opponent, winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-15) and never really letting the Raptors into the game.
The Hawks traveled to face the nearby Bard College on their home court, a team that has collected one win so far this season.
Hawks coach
Radu Petrus decided to rest most of his starters for the game, and players who haven't had a lot of playing time earned the chance to start and to grab SUNY New Paltz's 11th win of the season.
In the first set, the Hawks took advantage of mistakes on behalf of the Raptors, winning their last three points of the set with two attack errors and a ball handling error.
In the second, SUNY New Paltz was on fire from behind the line, hitting seven aces throughout the set and again winning two of the last three points thanks to Bard mistakes.
The third set ended once again with a service error by the Raptors, as the Hawks were in cruise control, hitting .609 percent and recording 16 kills while keeping the hosts to six.
SUNY New Paltz finished the game with a .412 hitting percentage, holding Bard to .150 percent on 40 attacks, compared to the Hawks' 68 attacks.
The Hawks tallied 39 kills on the night, and were led by freshman middle blocker
Pat Wing in his first career game for SUNY New Paltz. The Massapequa graduate registered 10 kills against the Raptors hitting an impressive .750 percent, and also recorded three aces.
Sophomore middle blocker
Tim Drake and junior opposite
Tenzin Kunga contributed to the Hawks' win with seven kills each, and they tallied two and one service ace respectively.
The Hawks haven't lost a set to the Raptors since 2014, when SUNY New Paltz won 3-1 in their second match up of the year.
SUNY New Paltz next play at the St. Joseph's College-Long Island Tri-Match Feb. 29 facing North Central College at 12 p.m. and St Joseph's at 2 p.m.
