The Hawks of SUNY New Paltz work to rally after a tough loss on the road against Farmingdale State on Wednesday night. Saturday the men's lacrosse team faces off against the Raptors of Bard College (0-2) and will try to stay perfect on its home turf.
The Hawks are hopeful for a bounce-back win, getting their season back on track. SUNY New Paltz played primarily defense against the Farmingdale State Rams, they exhausted their defensive play and had trouble maintaining possession on offense, unable to fire at will against a solid Rams defense, getting out-shot 57-22.
They will continue to capitalize on their clean play, obtaining only three, 30-second man-down situations last game and getting the stop in all three, along with an efficient clearing percentage, clearing 15 out of 22 balls. Freshman
Ryan Scully leads the Hawks in shots and points, and they will be looking to him to get the offense going against the Raptors this Saturday. Assisting him on the stat sheet is
Mason Pontrelli with two assists and Aiden Gregory with seven ground balls.
SUNY New Paltz will be looking to take advantage of Bard coming off of a blowout loss against Kean University. Five players on Kean were firing on all cylinders, recording three goals each. The score was 20-1 at halftime and the Raptors ripped some late-game shots, but not nearly enough to close the 19-goal deficit. Bard is led by senior attackman Corey Rich, who has five goals on the season. They began their year with a tight 11-10 loss against Mount St. Mary and a poor showing against Kean University in a 25-5 loss, and will be looking to capitalize on the newly formulated New Paltz program.
The Hawks will be looking to make adjustments from their game against a formidable Farmingdale State team. They are working to be more responsible with the ball on offense and keep shots off their goalie
John Hankel, who has 19 saves respectively.
The Hawks are set to play the Bard College Raptors on Saturday March 7 at 3 p.m. on the south turf field.
