Why There's Only One SUNY New Paltz: Maliqua Fisher, Women's Basketball '13

7/23/2020 1:56:00 PM

Maliqua Fisher starred on the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team for four seasons, captaining the Hawks to its first conference title in 2013. Through her four years, she became a three-time All-SUNYAC selection and sits seventh all-time in scoring and rebounds with 982 career points and 583 boards.

Additionally, Fisher was named as the 2013 Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. Award recipient in 2013. She returned to SUNY New Paltz during the 2018-19 season as an assistant coach and helped the team to another State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title and second appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16.

Fisher talked about her experience as a Hawk and why there is only one SUNY New Paltz. Maliqua Fisher only one quote graphic

"When someone asks me about New Paltz, I tell them that there's only one SUNY New Paltz. New Paltz not only has a diversity in popular majors and programs, but there is a diverse student body. This is where not only friends are made, but life-long bonds are created and families are formed. Teammates become brothers and sisters, laugh together, cry together, take on the competition relentlessly, win championships together and support one another on and off the courts and fields. New Paltz is the place to cherish the moments, and the memories will last a lifetime."
