Demi Herasme entered the State University of New York at New Paltz as freshman in 2017 and immediately saw time in the lineup, ultimately helping the Hawks to a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship in 2018 with Herasme securing the game-winning point. She backed up her sophomore campaign with her best statistical outing of her career as a junior in 2019, as she finished second on the team in kills (209), kills per set (1.95) and led the way in solo blocks (28) and total blocks (76), which all stood as career-high numbers for the Chester, NY native.
Herasme talked about her experience as a Hawk and why there is only one SUNY New Paltz.
"At our college you are surrounded by passionate peers and faculty that help you grow. Your sense of comfort starts in the charming town and natural scenic environment. Through the experiences at New Paltz, you learn independence while simultaneously creating relationships. You gain success within the classroom and athletics, happiness from new friends and role models, and lastly, pride in who you are and what you have accomplished. Whatever your destination, New Paltz can help you get there — even if you don't know where "there" is yet. Each of us chose SUNY New Paltz for individual reasons but with time, you will gain an understanding of why there's only being one."
