Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) released its weekly awards Monday with Hawks senior goalie
Ryan Dowling being named as the field hockey SUNYAC/PrestoSports Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Dowling made the start for SUNY New Paltz in both shutout victories last week, none bigger than a 3-0 victory on the road over top-25 opponent Ithaca Oct. 12. Dowling protected an early 3-0 lead for the Hawks and withstood 13 shots, eight coming in the second half alone, to preserve the shutout victory. The East Northport, NY native finished with five saves in the win and recorded her second win of the season. Dowling then got the start Oct. 16 on the road against SUNYAC opposition Morrisville and in the first 30 minutes of action made the lone stop of the game to help with the 8-0 victory.
Through 11 games and six starts, Dowling has allowed seven goals against, making 65 saves for a 1.04 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .841.
The weekly honor is the first for Dowling, but she becomes the fourth different Hawk to receive an offensive or defensive field hockey Athlete of the Week accolade, and the second consecutive defensive honor with
Jessica Ascencao claiming the award last week, along with
Hannah Ackerman receiving offensive honors.
