Just two days after the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team's 2019-20 season came to an end in a heart-breaking loss at home to Smith College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the entire tournament — and the country — shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

An illustrious program that established a dynasty within the SUNYAC conference, winning consecutive conference championships and four titles in five years, the Hawks were prepared to further its dominance and become a national contender. That feat was put on hold as the 2020-21 season was also canceled and with two years to prepare, the freshmen who were left from the previous run was elevated as the program leaders to keep the same standard their veteran leaders left following 2020.

With seven new faces on the roster and the majority of the team having little to no experience playing collegiate basketball, SUNY New Paltz women's basketball enters an unusual season two years in the making with the same lofty goals they left off with; capturing another SUNYAC title and making a run at the program's first national championship.

The Two Year Season follows the Hawks women's basketball team as their pursuit continues entering 2021-22.
