8/23/2021 9:37:00 AM

New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz's softball team announced its incoming class Monday for the 2022 season. The Hawks have four incoming freshmen and three transfers to add depth to a promising roster and hope to provide the same type of impact the Hawks' sophomore class demonstrated in a shortened 2021 season.

"We are very excited about this year's incoming freshmen and transfer class," SUNY New Paltz coach Krysti Maronski said. "Overall, they bring a great amount of athleticism, talent and competitiveness to our team. In addition to being great softball players, they have all excelled in the classroom and we are very much looking forward to seeing them continue that success here at SUNY New Paltz."

Maronski, going into her fourth season with the team and expectedly her second with a full schedule on hand, brings in three student-athletes from the 2025 class in outfielders Jackie Rometo and Nicole Greco, while the other Ashley Wulff, will have a chance to compete for a spot at catcher with the graduation of veteran Madison Rappold, who held down the starting spot behind the plate for the past three years. With the departure of senior Emily Fox from her rotation, Maronski brought in right-hander Sydney Waldon who will compete for some starts in 2022. Rounding out the incoming class is fifth-year transfer from SUNY Geneseo Angela Van Pelt who has won two conference championships with the Knights during her four-year career, Pace University transfer Juliet Bernstein who will also compete for time behind the plate for the Hawks, and Concordia College transfer Mya DiRenzo who has the ability to play any position along the infield.
