SUNY New Paltz Equestrian Secure First NCEA Win of the Year Over Delaware State

Dover, DE — The State University of New York at New Paltz NCEA equestrian team traveled down to Delaware Friday and earned its first win of the season over hosting Delaware State, 5-3.
 
The Hawks scored 620 points to the Hornets' 611.5 to earn their first victory of the season in just their second meet of the year.
 
SUNY New Paltz won three of four head-to-head matchups in fences with Brynley Smith defeating Victoria Croston, 73-72 to begin the afternoon. Devyn Looney scored 86 points to lead all riders in the event and defeated Delaware State's Gabrielle Fournier (78). Alanna Ryan then handily won her matchup over Jordan Wicklund, 83-55. Lily Yamposlky, riding Patton scored 74 points in fences, but it wasn't enough to beat Olivia Brown's 82 total.
 
Yampolsky did bounce back to earn one of SUNY New Paltz's two victories in flat, finishing with 62 points on Carlus to defeat Fournier who did not score. Smith concluded the day with the most impressive performance, scoring 92 points on Finnegan to edge Croston, who finished with 91.

The Hawks remain in Delaware Saturday to face the Hornets once again to conclude their short fall season.
